Overview

As Head of Data at Tebi, I lead the design and implementation of the data infrastructure for an all-in-one financial platform serving independent hospitality and retail businesses across Europe. Tebi, founded by Adyen alumni, has raised €30M in Series B funding led by Alphabet’s CapitalG, following a €20M Series A round from Index Ventures.

Company Context

Tebi is revolutionizing how independent businesses in hospitality and retail manage their operations by providing an integrated platform that combines:

• Point of Sale (POS) systems
• Payment processing
• Financial management tools
• Business analytics and insights

The platform is designed to empower small and medium-sized businesses with enterprise-grade technology, helping them compete effectively in their markets.

Key Responsibilities

Data Platform Architecture

• Platform Design: Leading the architecture and development of a scalable, cloud-native data platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Infrastructure as Code: Implementing robust infrastructure management using Terraform for consistent and reproducible deployments
• Data Warehousing: Designing and managing the Snowflake-based data warehouse to support analytics, reporting, and business intelligence needs

Data Engineering

• ETL/ELT Pipelines: Building and maintaining data pipelines using modern tools like DBT (Data Build Tool) and Apache Airflow for orchestration
• Real-time Data Processing: Implementing event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka for real-time data streaming and processing
• Data Integration: Connecting multiple data sources across the product suite to create a unified view of business operations

Technical Leadership

• Team Building: Growing and mentoring the data engineering team to handle the scaling challenges of a rapidly expanding fintech platform
• Best Practices: Establishing data governance, quality standards, and engineering best practices across the organization
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Working closely with product, engineering, and business teams to translate data requirements into scalable solutions

• Business Intelligence: Enabling data-driven decision making through comprehensive analytics dashboards and reporting tools
• Customer Insights: Building analytics capabilities that help both internal teams and customers understand business performance
• ML Foundation: Laying the groundwork for future machine learning and AI capabilities to enhance product offerings
